PROBLEM
STATEMENT FOUR
Finding an economically and physically viable solution to treat large amount of construction wastewater to achieve legal discharge limit in Hong Kong
The Problem
Water is a precious resource and a significant amount is needed in construction. Prior to being discharged back into the storm water drains, the water needs to be treated for sedimentation and coagulation.
During seasons of intense precipitation, this additional rainfall becomes entrapped within the construction site since the discharge rate is slower than the fill rate. This leads to flooding of the site and lost man-hours once construction is ready to re-begin after the rain stops. We are looking for water treatment technology that can effectively process the water in large quantities at the government-defined discharge quality standards.

Requested
Solution
-
Solution must be able to treat waste water to the required quality standard for discharge, which includes:
-
pH value = 6-9
-
Suspended Solid ≤ 30 mg/L
-
COD ≤ 80 mg/L
-
and/or other specific discharge limit required on discharge license
-
-
Highly efficient water treatment solution that can replace our current water treatment method (i.e. 80 m3/hour)
-
Treatment system portable enough to be moved from one construction site to another; dimension of our existing treatment plant (80 m3/hour) is 7m (L) x 2.3m (W) x 3m (H)
-
Economically feasible solution once implemented to scale
-
Solutions tailored to construction sites preferred
